Westside Insider Head of School

Last week when all of our Middle School students in fifth through eighth grades had an opportunity to spend a week in the wilderness on their spring trips, I had the privilege of joining our eighth grade class – the Westside School graduating class of 2014 – on the final days of their week in and around Mount St. Helens National Monument. It was indeed a joyous time of reflection, appreciation, sharing of memories, and looking forward. I am so proud of our eighth graders and the amazing way they articulate their Westside experience. We will have many more opportunities to celebrate these fine young people in the weeks to come…but for a few beautiful days in the shadow of a volcano last week, my heart connected to the past, present and future of Westside in an explosion of love, joy and gratitude.

You received an invitation in the mail to a dialogue-style event on May 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the current campus. Parents will see updated floor-plans and renderings, and break into small groups to discuss plans, financing details, project highlights and more. All parents are encouraged to attend! We want to hear from every Westside parent, so please click here to RSVP, via the card you received in the mail, or by emailing Kathy at kathyw@westsideschool.org. Complimentary childcare will be provided, please register here.

To make Field Day a success for our kids, we need plenty of volunteers: please sign up for Lower School Field Day on Friday, May 30! This is an outdoor day full of old-fashioned, playground fun organized by our own P.E. dynamos, Donna Jornlin and Mike Thomas. Westside School’s Field Day starts with a pizza lunch followed by a round of games in the afternoon from walking in gooey ooblek to obstacle courses. After the games, everyone enjoys a well-earned Popsicle, graciously donated by Umpqua Bank.

Westside School will be hosting an Independent High School fair for sixth and seventh grade families on Tuesday, May 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. We will welcome approximately 15 Admission Directors from Independent Schools in the Seattle area, along with two boarding schools. Be sure to check out more here!

We will now be offering guests WI-FI access. There will be guest log-in information available for you at the front desk in the main office. Enjoy!

It is getting to be that time of year…summer break is fast approaching and library inventory will begin soon. This means next week, the WEEK OF MAY 19- May 23, will be the FINAL WEEK for library book checkouts. This will allow enough time for those delinquent library books to make it back to the library and for any library charges to be settled. All items will be due back to the library on Tuesday, May 27. Thank you!
