Westside School Picture Day is THIS Friday, October 17. Please mark your calendars! This is also a Westside School SPIRIT Wear and Pizza Day. Please have your child dress for Picture Day, and always remember SPIRIT wear is optional. Order forms went home with your children or Thursday, October 9. All orders are due on or before Friday, October 17. You may use the paper forms or may follow instructions to order online. AUTHOR GABRIELLE LORD VISITS WESTSIDE SCHOOL
We are looking forward to welcoming author Gabrielle Lord to Westside School on Thursday, October 23 in the library. It is very exciting to have her join us for a conversation, as she is well-known throughout Australia and many are enjoying the Conspiracy 365 series.
HAIKU PARENT ORIENTATION
The Middle School will be hosting a Parent Orientation about Haiku – the student management system – on Thursday, October 16 and on Monday, October 20. To learn more about Haiku and details about our scheduled meetings, click here!
MIDDLE SCHOOL CONFERENCES
Middle School Conferences begin the afternoon of Wednesday, October 29 at 4:00 p.m. and continue through Friday, October 31. The format for the conferences is similar to last year, with students and parents meeting individually with teachers. Sign up will take place through Sign Up Genius, and the link to sign up will be sent today, Monday, October 13.
HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS
On Tuesday, October 14, Holy Names Academy and O’Dea High School will be visiting Westside School to talk to our eighth grade students about their respective high school programs. The eighth grade class will be split by gender to attend each presentation. All seventh and eighth grade parents are welcome to join us at 10:20 a.m., location TBD.
It’s Westside School Fund Week! Volunteers will be available all week at drop off and pick up to collect pledge forms. You can also drop yours in the main office, give online, or email your pledge intention to firstname.lastname@example.org by the Friday, October 31 deadline.
Stop by the MPR to help add pieces to the giant jigsaw puzzle with your child’s picture – as pledges come in we’ll add more pieces! Jon us Friday, October 17 for the Westside School Fund Social at 7:00 p.m. – all parents are welcome! At this wine and cheese event we’ll see the beautifully created Westside Fund video by Westside School parent Angel Colmenares.
Great news! All members of the Westside School Faculty and Staff team gave to the Westside School Fund. Additionally, 100% of the Board of Trustees have pledged their support. THANK YOU!
Westside School Cross Country runners competed in the CYO championship cross country meet on Sunday at Woodland Park. Combined with the kindergarten through third grade championship meet the previous Sunday, there were a total of 47 runners competing. SEATTLE KIDS MARATHON
The Seattle Kids Marathon is coming! Register here! The Kids Marathon is an autumn Westside School tradition that encourages kids to be active and get moving. The cost is $20, and the final mile is Saturday, November 29, 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Stadium at the Seattle Center.
Our the next several weeks leading up to November 29, they will run or walk 25 miles, keeping track on a chart provided after you register. Mileage Club miles run at school count toward the total, or walk in your neighborhood as a family activity. Then join hundreds of students from around King County as they finish their marathon around the Seattle Center and earn their t-shirt. Older students or those wanting more of a challenge can participate in the Santa versus Super Heroes 5k at 8:30 a.m. on November 29.
Join us for HalloweenFest Saturday, October 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We need many volunteers to make this a fun event for the kids, please click here if you can help! Middle School student volunteer signups can be found on the first floor of the Middle School hallway.
PARENT EDUCATION NIGHT
A Parent Education event will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Please join us to hear from Dr. Laura S. Kastner, author of the parenting books “Getting to Calm” and ‘Wise Minded Parenting.” This information will be useful to parents of children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grades. Dr. Kastner will discuss effective parenting strategies and predictors of success in child/adolescent outcomes. Enter campus through the South Parking Lot. Childcare (register here), and a pizza dinner, will be provided. Please drop off your child between 6:00 and 6:15 p.m. in the gym.
Often prospective families share they first heard about our school through a personal recommendation from a Westside School family. Thank you to our wonderful families for helping spread the good word about our school. During Admission Season everyone is on the team!
On Saturday, October 18 we will host our first Open House of the year from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for prospective families to tour our campus and speak to members of our faculty. We are still looking for a few parent volunteers to assist with the Open House this Saturday, October 18. Please contact David Bergler (email@example.com) for details. Admission applications are due on January 14, 2015.
VOLUNTEER DRIVER FORM
If you are volunteering as a driver for Westside School, it is required we have the Volunteer Driver form on file for you. This link for the online form was sent to you during the summer. If you cannot locate it, please contact Kathy Winans (firstname.lastname@example.org) and she will resend it. Please complete this form prior to participating as a driver for Westside School field trips.
