Our Westside School Middle School Mandarin students have been learning Chinese rituals and languages associated with the Chinese Spring Festival, which fell on February 18 this year. The classes incorporated technology into their learning, and students were given dynamic lecture including various pictures, videos, Chinese characters (hanzi) and classic, Chinese New Year’s Songs. Additionally, students are practicing Chinese characters on the iPad app– estoke. Students have just finished the Lucky Money Red Envelope, a hands-on activity creating a paper-cutting of a traditional Chinese character “春“ representing “spring is coming”, and wrote one sentence of Chinese auspicious proverb on a slip of paper. They then put them in a red envelope to exchange with each other!
