May is Bike to School month! Join the Westside School Bike to School Team! Bike to School month is designed to encourage bicycle commuting, a chance to mentor new riders and foster a love of bicycling. Any Westside School student or staff can participate even if you are not able to ride to school.
Parents – mark your calendars for the “Bike to School Kickoff” on Friday May 1 , 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
All ages and abilities can participate, even if you are not participating in the official Bike to School Month program. We’ll have safety instruction and prizes (offered by Pedal Heads,) “loose the training wheel” instruction, obstacle courses, bike tuning assistance and information about how to participate in Bike to School Month.
Every ride counts! Because every child cannot cycle safely to school, and because daily activities for kids also includes sports, music lessons, trips to the library, play dates, and more, trips for Bike to School Month can include any trip made by bicycle somewhere he or she needs to go anytime during the month of May. We’ll be tallying the miles for the entire school all month long.
For more information and to sign up look for a Bike to School flyer at the WPO corner, contact Carmel Schimmel (Lower School, firstname.lastname@example.org) or Astrid Klopsch (Middle School, email@example.com), or stop by the information table at the Bike Month Kick Off.
You’ll receive and email with direction how to log your daily participation. Lower school will be logging their minutes on a printed calendar and the upper school will be logging their participation online on the Cascade Leader board.
Parents volunteers are needed to assist with the Friday evening kick off, May 1, and to lead group rides in your neighborhood on Wednesday, May 6 or throughout the month. Want to help? Contact Carmel Schimmel!
