Collaborative Mathematics instruction + A Love for Roller Coasters = new 7th grade STEM teacher!

Posted on

We are excited to introduce our new Middle School faculty member, Jason Ermer, who will be joining the Westside School community in the fall as the seventh grade STEM instructor! Jason has more than twelve years experience as a classroom teacher and curriculum designer, and is committed to an inquiry-based approach in which students construct knowledge through exploration. Jason earned his undergraduate degree at Carnegie Mellon University and his Master of Education at the University of Texas at Austin. He and his husband, Michael, have spent the last couple of years living in Oslo, Norway and have made their way back to the states this spring.

Jason Ermer

His love of mathematics does not end with classroom teaching. He has taken his knowledge and love of learning to create a project close to his heart. Collaborative Mathematics is a website that uses video as a means of connecting a worldwide community of mathematical problem solvers. Be sure to check it out!

While Jason is a caring and enthusiastic mathematics and computer science educator, he is equally excited by his hobby of juggling and the thrill of a roller coaster. He visits amusement parks as often as possible, even when traveling internationally. While living in Europe he had the opportunity to visit Linnanmaki in Finland and Liseberg in Sweden. When in the mood to stay closer to the ground, Jason also thoroughly enjoys hiking!

We look forward to welcoming Jason to Westside School in August, 2015!
