Dear Westside School families,
As summer winds down, we’re ready to launch a great 2015-2016 school year in our new home! Enclosed are several important updates on your child’s fall trip, including reminders about gear checks and medication as well as details about trip departure and arrival times.
If your child has daily, as needed, or emergency medications… We ask parents give the exact amount of any daily medications needed for the trip, in the original, labeled containers (as per Washington state law), directly to your child’s trip leader. If possible, please bring these medications in on the same day as your child’s gear check (the first day of school!) If it is not possible to bring the medication in advance, please turn it in on the morning your child’s trip departs. On trips, medications are stored securely and each child has a separate pouch with only their name visible to ensure privacy. When your child returns to campus after their adventure, please remember to collect all daily medications from the trip leader at pickup.
Please do not have your child carry their medications to or from school – the only medications students are allowed to carry with them (at school or on trips) are emergency inhalers and epi-pens. If your child has one or both of these emergency medications, please make sure a school supply is turned in to Kathy Winans on, or before, the first day of school. (The school supply is in addition to what your child regularly keeps with them.) Please ask for Kathy at the Reception desk.
If your child is administered any medication on our trips, it will be documented. If you would like to have a copy of these records, please let us know when we return to campus.
We provide food for all students on our trips, and are careful to accommodate allergies as well as dietary restrictions, but if you would like to talk more about your child’s particular food allergies or other dietary concerns, please get in touch with one of your child’s trip leaders.
Sixth grade –
While our trip area is not currently threatened by wildfire, it is inaccessible due to wildfires in surrounding areas. We are working closely with our partners at the Seattle YMCA to make alternate arrangements in the event the area remains closed, and will keep families apprised of any changes made to the trip itinerary.
The YMCA BOLD/GOLD Participant Information and Release from Liability form is due in hard copy by Friday, September 11. They will be available to pick up in hard copy at the Middle School Orientation on Tuesday, September 8, but are also available online here.

Important Dates & Times:
Wednesday, September 9 – ALL personal gear brought to school (drop off your gear in Glyn’s or Lauren’s room before heading to advisory for first period)
Friday, September 11 – YMCA permission and liability forms due to Glyn or Lauren (linked above)
Monday, September 14 – Arrive at school by 7:30 a.m. for a prompt departure. Don’t forget to bring a sack lunch!
Friday, September 18 – Return to school by 3:30 p.m. for regular afternoon pickup, but please be prepared to wait until 4:00 p.m. if the group is slightly delayed – if they will arrive back later than 4:00 p.m., the school will notify all sixth grade families via email.
