Dear Westside School families,
Thank you, thank you, thank you! We have had so many of you stop by in the mornings for coffee and community time this week. It is wonderful to see old friends and meet new ones. The lobby has been bustling. Special thanks to Westside School parent, Emanuele Bizzarri and Caffé Umbria for the donation of our fabulous new coffee makers and servers.
I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your flexibility and patience as we work through the first week glitches to develop a smooth and safe pick up procedure. We continue to work toward making this a safe and efficient process for all, while at the same time being respectful of our impact on the neighborhood and following the procedures outlined by the city of Seattle in granting our permit to operate Westside School here in Arbor Heights. The pick-up process is beginning to work as planned, and the children even love hearing their name called for a colored cone!
What an amazing week of camaraderie and teamwork. We appreciate all of our parents and your participation in the daily life of our school. Working with children is a privilege, and your children are a delight.
I will not see many Middle School parents this week while your children are away on class trips, but I look forward to seeing you next week when they return. Lower School parents, I hope to see you this week at one or both of our two curriculum nights!
We would like to invite you to Curriculum Night this Wednesday, September 16 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for families with students in pre-kindergarten through first grade and Thursday, September 17 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. for families with students in second through fourth grades.
Complimentary childcare will be available in the lunchroom for this event. We will be ordering pizza for the children, so please let us know if you plan to use childcare that evening by sending an email to Andrew DeLappe (email@example.com.) If your child does not like pizza, you are free to send a snack.
We will begin in the Theater at 6:00 p.m. with a welcome and opening remarks from our Head of School Kate Mulligan, and will transition to classrooms at 6:20 p.m. for individual curriculum presentations with your child’s teacher about what to expect in classrooms this year. This curriculum night replaces the previous Curriculum Coffees held in past years during the second week of school.
In addition to all available spaces in our parking lot, you should be able to find parking on the east side of 34th Avenue and 104th, and on 32nd street. As a courtesy to our neighbors please do not park on the west side of 34th Ave.
We look forward to sharing our plans for an exciting school year!
Please remember to always use firstname.lastname@example.org to communicate student absences, anticipated late arrivals, changes to pick-up, notifications or changes to EDP, or any other matter related to student presence on campus. While you are welcome to copy your child’s teacher or advisor on these emails, we will always make sure your email to the attendance email account is forwarded to the appropriate people. You need not copy other staff members.

Our pizza this year will again be purchased from Pizza Gallery, located in Burien. They were fabulous to work with and provided consistent, yummy pizza the kids loved. And just as a bonus, they often sent over complimentary gourmet pizzas for the teachers! They are a great company to work with and we are happy to continue that relationship this year.
