First grade students traditionally learn about world geography. This year they began with a study the part of the world we live in, Seattle. The culminating activity was building their own city! This was a collaborative effort among table mates. Each group built their city with recyclables on a foundation of land and water. Following an excellent presentation by Ed Berry, parent of Michael, students built bridges for their cities. Each student designed city has its own distinct style. This project took the students two days to complete, and was an integration of cooperative learning, engineering, design and social studies. Way to go, first grade! Stay tuned for more photos as the city goes up for display in our Gallery!
