Insider lower school

As a part of an ongoing discussion of our impact on communities, third grade is seeking donations for Westside Baby. Third grade teachers will be collecting gently used items from Monday, November 16 to Tuesday, November 24. The focus will be on clothing items to keep children in need warm this winter. However, we will gladly take any items off of the Westside Baby approved donation list. To learn what Westside Baby accepts for distribution, click here! Thank you in advance on behalf of third grade students for your donations.

Students in the Lower School are excited to welcome Grandparents or Family Friends (ADULT FRIENDS ONLY) to school on Tuesday, November 24 from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m. This special event will give Grandparents or Family Friends the opportunity to see our beautiful new campus, enjoy light snacks, see a short performance in the theater, and visit the classroom of his or her grandchild or family friend! All Grandparents and Family Friends are welcome (and encouraged) to take children home at the conclusion of this event to begin enjoying Thanksgiving vacation with their family and friends. Parking is available on campus until the event concludes. Any questions about the event may be directed to members of the Advancement Team at 206.932.2511.

Insider middle school

This week the Middle School is conducting a food drive for Northwest Harvest to help fight hunger in Washington. Please consider helping by sending in nonperishable food for the drive.

Next Monday, November 23, Middle School students will have an assembly focused on Internet safety. Stephanie Thomas from the Seattle Police Department will be sharing her extensive knowledge on the topic to help our students be better informed about some of the risks and precautions related to their digital footprint.

The Middle School Exhibition of Learning (EOL) is on Wednesday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m. starting in the theater. The EOL is an event where students share a project from their work this year in their core classes. We invite families and friends to hear from students on what they have been learning and what the work they are sharing is all about. We hope you will provide feedback, ask questions, and interact with multiple students and grade levels. In this way you become an authentic audience that helps our students learn how to communicate their ideas and understanding to stake holders outside of their day to day experience.

There is still time to give to the Westside School Fund! Please join 100% of Westside School’s faculty and staff, 100% of the Board of Trustees and 69% of fellow families in supporting the Westside School Fund!

To date we have raised over $150,000 for curriculum initiatives, books and supplies, faculty professional development and much more. Help us get to $240,000 by donating online or by dropping off or mailing your pledge form today!

Thank you all who have already made your commitment to this important fund!

Just a reminder that WPO Board meetings are open to anyone who is interested in attending! These meetings are a great chance to listen and learn more about what’s happening in the WPO.

Susannah could really use some help in the library on Friday afternoons! The volunteers will be able to enjoy time in the school’s cozy library while checking in books, re-shelving books and generally straightening up the library at the end of the week. The timing is flexible and any help would be greatly appreciated! Please contact Susannah if you can help – susannahm@westsideschool.org
