An experienced artist and craftsman, Darwin Nordin joins our Westside School faculty as the art instructor for second through eighth grade. He brings with him extensive experience as a teaching-artist in areas such as design, fabrication, gardening, landscape, graphic design, wood working, as well as a tremendous amount of experience working with students in grades kindergarten through twelfth.
An accomplished visual artist, whose work includes drawings, paintings and sculpture that reflect his fascination with nature, Darwin’s career as a teaching artist is centered-around the creative habits.
He has worked collaboratively with poets, writers, actors, dancers, filmmakers and set designers. He has facilitated the creation of large mixed media artworks for organizations like the Seattle Children’s Museum, the Port of Seattle, and the Museum of Glass. He has served as an arts integration and curriculum consultant, and provided professional development to teachers and teaching artists. He has taught for the Washington State Arts Commission, Powerful Schools, Centrum, The Gage Academy, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and Arts Corps, among other organizations. Darwin holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University.
