Ask our kids and they will tell you – Field Day is one of their favorite activities. This year Field Day will take place on Friday, June 3, and as always, we need our parents help to make this possible. Usually the event takes place off site but this year we are trying something new and holding the event on our own campus. The event schedule will remain the same as recent years. We start with a pizza lunch and awards presented by Emily Gussin, followed by the always-popular fourth grade donut-eating spectacle! Games will then begin as groups move through activities and we will finish with popsicles.
As mentioned, this event is not possible without volunteers so please sign up now!!!!
THIRD GRADE AND THE WIZARD OF OZ
We’re off to see the Wizard! We hope you will join the cast of The Wizard of Oz and our third grade classes for this spring’s musical performance! On Thursday, May 19 the Middle School Performance of The Wizard of Oz with Jana and Hayley’s third grade class will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the theater. On Friday, May 20 the Middle School Musical Performance of The Wizard of Oz with Signe and Kate’s third grade class will begin at 6:30 p.m. in theater. Follow the Yellow Brick Road to these much-anticipated performances!
EXHIBITION OF LEARNING
The Middle School invites all families to the upcoming Exhibition of Learning (EOL) on Tuesday, May 24. The EOL is a snapshot of student learning in the form of various projects and other work that represent one variable in the learning equation at Westside School. You play a very important role in this equation, that of authentic audience.
An authentic audience allows for observation, feedback, and participation that comes from an audience which raises the stakes in the learning process and confers greater ownership of what is learned. To that end, we ask you to attend and interact by providing feedback to not only your own student’s work but to that of students from other classes and grade levels exhibiting at the EOL.
Students should arrive about 6:25 p.m. and go to where they are sharing their work in the Middle School wing. Parents should go to the theater for the 6:30 p.m. start then onto their student’s presentation.
The Middle School faculty looks forward to seeing you at the spring Exhibition of Learning!
Westside School Middle School Field Day will be held Friday, June 3. With the move to our permanent home, we are changing locations since we are no longer close to Walt Hundley. We are excited to announce Field Day will be at Lincoln Park. Here are the basic details:
Middle School students will walk to Lincoln Park after second period. The groups will walk down by advisory, with advisors keeping a close eye on the students. This is expected to take about 40 minutes. The morning portion of Field Day is competitions by advisory. Each advisory will pick their colors for the day, and wear shirts of that color. Everyone will have a pizza lunch and then the afternoon will consist of group games of the students’ choice.
At the conclusion of Field Day, pick up will be at Lincoln Park’s north parking lot between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. This way, we will stay out of the way of Lower School pick up at Westside School. This will also allow parents with Lower and Middle School kids to have time to pick up the Middle School child either before or after Lower School dismissal. Any students who would normally be staying in Extended Day will get a ride back to Westside School in a van, and be checked in to EDP.
Westside School qualified for the AAA meet for the Team Championship track meet this Saturday, May 21. The meet starts at 10:00 a.m. at Renton Memorial Stadium. We have had good community support through the year, and it would be great to have a big crowd from Westside School to cheer on our athletes! Go Wolves!
