Westside School will once again open its doors to three- and four-year-olds for a half- and full-day preschool program for the fall of 2017. Expanding upon our current pre-kindergarten program, we will offer emergent curriculum focused on experiential learning and inspired by a variety of teaching practices. Preschool students will have access to many of our specialists, such as visual art, performing arts, physical education, and world languages.

Great early-childhood education has been a hallmark of Westside School since its founding in 1981 and we are thrilled to announce the return of our preschool after a several-year hiatus. We encourage families to join us for our Preschool Preview or a tour.

Westside School is now accepting applications for preschool and other grades (depending on availability) for the fall 2017. For more information, please contact Ted Holmes in our Office of Admission, tedh@westsideschool.org or 206.932.2511.

Important Dates:

Tuesday, May 9: Preschool Preview, 10:00 to 11:00 am. Meet the preschool teachers and learn about the program in detail. Parents and guardians only, please.

Tuesday, May 23, Student Observation, 10:00 to 11:00 am. We will meet prospective students in a short observation session.

Tours for all grades: Available upon request: 206.932.2511

Eighth grade student Kai reflects on the ways Westside has prepared him for the next chapter…

In anticipation of our 35th Celebration, we’ve asked some of our eighth grade students to share their Westside Story. Westside School is what it is today because of 35 years of stories. We’d love to hear yours.

When I first started at Westside School, I was a young pre-school student. I can’t remember much of that time, but I do remember loving my teacher, Nancy. My parents also loved Nancy, and we grew to become friends with Nancy’s daughter, Andrea. She was a nanny to both my sister and me for two years. I feel like every teacher I have had, I have had the chance to get to know them personally, and view them as someone I can always count on. As I have grown up I have realized how well Westside School has treated me. I am growing up with a great understanding of who I want to be morally and how I want others to view me. I feel like I am ready for the next chapter in my life, and wherever I go I will have these skills and understandings that will help me.

I began my education at Westside School when I was three years old. At that time, Westside was still sharing space with Explorer West, and the pre-school was in a portable. My teacher was the sweet, caring, Nancy. I remember everything clearly. My first day at Westside School surpassed my expectations. I was so nervous, but as soon as I walked in, I knew I did not have to be scared. The environment was filled with laughter, and I was so excited to finally have a cubby. There were so many cool toys! I have been at Westside for over ten years. It’s all I have ever known, and I am still not quite ready to leave. I will always smile when I think of my experiences here.
